Move Choo/Juan Rivera for Abreu/Lind??

Postby mm92280 » Tue Apr 05, 2011 8:07 pm

I play in a 20 team H2H keeper league and I've been looking around at ways to give more depth to my offense, since my bench is so thin and my utility spots so uncertain with the KC duo of Alex Gordon and Ka'aihue. Thus, I am considering moving Shin-Soo Choo for the combo of Adam Lind and Bobby Abreu. Lind was obviously one of the bigger disappointments last year but he plays in a good hitters park and is in an improving lineup, so I feel there is some hope for a bounceback (though not a return to '09 production). Abreu is getting older and his BA fell to an obvious low last year but he still went 20/20 and stayed around 80/80 with regard to RBIs and Runs. He also hits in a prime spot in that lineup and should still have solid all-around value (even if his average doesn't really rebound).

I would be throwing in Juan Rivera just to make it an even 2-for-2 deal. Would I be nuts to even consider this deal? I like Choo and think he's a good-to-very good outfielder but he's not the surefire outstanding keeper that a guy like Carlos Gonzalez or Ryan Braun is. Am I undervaluing him in this deal?

BTW, our scoring categories include: AVG, Runs, HR, RBIs, SB and OPS

Here is my team, as it stands now:

C: C. Santana (C)
1B: R. Howard (1B)
2B: B. Roberts (2B)
SS: A. Escobar (SS)
3B: P. Alvarez (3B)

CF: D. Stubbs (CF)
RF: S. Soo Choo (RF)
Util: K. Ka'aihue (1B)
Util: A. Gordon (LF)
Bn: J. Lowrie (SS, 2B)
Bn: J. Rivera (LF, RF)

SP: C. Hamels (SP)
SP: R. Dempster (SP)
SP: J. Vasquez (SP)
P: A. Sanchez (SP)
P: T. Stauffer (SP/RP)
RP: L. Nunez (RP)
RP: J. Contreras (RP)
Bn: J. Niese (SP)
Bn: C. Richard (SP)
Bn; B. Fuentes (RP)

No. Choo is a top 5 OF and you should get something similar in value in return. I like Lind to bounce back but not that much as he is just a 1B/Util guy. Choo isn't a keeper over Braun or Cargo (or at least right now he isn't) but he is still very valuable for your team.
