Edwin Jackson vs. Mike Minor

Postby kaleskenov » Wed Mar 23, 2011 7:44 pm

This is my first post so please be as kind as is possible.

I am in a ten team mixed league and have a very substantial rotation. At the end of my draft I went for Edwin Jackson having done a lot of research on the possibility of improved numbers for 2011. Would I have known Mike Minor were not drafted, I wouldn't have thought twice and went with him (My league is a dynasty/keeper league).

Now I am deciding whether I should drop Jackson and claim Minor off waivers. This is basically for a luxury 6th pitcher which I know I don't totally need, but I think Minor is pretty exciting and would love to have him in my league. I guess the more I read about both of them is confusing me and I know I can only have one.

Does anyone have any advice?

Welcome to the Cafe. Great place, great people and usually pretty good answers.

As for your question, could use a little more info like size of league, type of league and you might as well give us your roster.

Jackson vs Minor though I would take Jackson without any other info.

2B Dan Uggla
3B Mark Reynolds
SS Ian Desmond
LF Travis Snider
CF Drew Stubbs
RF Jason Heyward
UTIL Adam Lind
UTIL Carlos Quentin

P Joaquin Benoit
SP Brett Anderson
SP CC Sabathia
SP David Price
SP Matt Cain
SP Jeremy Hellickson
RP Mariano Rivera
RP Matt Thornton
RP Brad Lidge
Bench Jesus Montero
Bench Gaby Sanchez
Bench Austin Jackson

Jackson for sure, at least for this year. Word out of Atlanta is that the 5th spot in the rotation is going to Brandon Beachy, not Minor like everyone had thought.
League Setup:
13 Team Points League
6 Hitters 3 Pitchers (Positions don't matter)
1B = 1, 2B = 2, 3B = 3, HR = 4, RBI = 1
Win = 12, Save = 5

I think I'd keep Jackson also. Without knowing the rules of your keeper (how many players you keep, what rounds they account for) I would say not only does Jackson have a better chance to help your team this year, but he has a better chance to be someone you would keep next year. It's likely next year you would be able to draft Minor with a mid to late-teens pick next year anyway. I'd keep an eye on Minor but I'd hold Jackson for now.
