I have an auction draft tomorrow night and was wondering if I could do well with the following strategy. It's a standard Yahoo H2H league 5x5 keepers for +$8 of drafted value - first year (so no keepers). Standard positions, 2 UT and 3 SP, 2 RP, 2 P, 4 bench.
I would like to try a draft strategy of loading up on hitters and a few quality SP's and some potential breakout SP's with the majority of my $260 budget. For RP spots, I would like to not totally punt saves but rather draft one (maybe two depending on price) true closers that don't cost much - guys like Nathan (inj), Axfod, Hanrahan, Gregg, Aardsma (plenty of others I'm forgetting) and then drafting 2-3 set up guys with killer K rates and low ERA's and WHIP's. I would hope to balance poor ERA totals of my crappy closers with these guys and also bank on one of them to take the closer role at some point or find a WW gem. Guys I'm thinking of are like Sale, Kimbrell, Soriano, Bard, others.
Could this strategy work - for $10 total for 4 RP's or would it be better to just spent twice that on 2-3 solid closers?
