Getting a legit closer

Postby jason.park.87 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:39 pm

I felt my team was really weak in Saves, so I decided to make a trade for a legit closer. I also made my team a little younger in this Dynasty League.

I gave up:
Bay, Sizemore, Frank Francisco, Ervin Santana.

I got:
LaPorta, Franklin Gutierrez, Soria.

How did I do?

Soria is a top closer. Bay and Sizemore are big risks, they do have a big upside if they get back to their best career numbers. Odds they both rebound are slim. I like your deal. Let someone else have to wait for those two to produce.

Not a huge fan of this deal. LaPorta is as much as a risk as Bay or Sizemore, and unlike them he doesn't have any history of being able to hit MLB pitching, and as much as I like Guti he's a much better real-life player. I suppose it's possible he goes 20/20 with a decent AVG but it's real unlikely. Soria is obviously a stud but your league counts holds, which makes relievers even more fungible than they already are.

That being said, I don't think you got hosed. I'd call this deal about even. You certainly didn't win big, though.
