Big Trade: My Youk/Lester/Crawford/Paple for...

Postby prophet_x » Tue Mar 01, 2011 3:11 pm

12-Team Yahoo H2H league with more stat categories for pitching. I was proposed a trade today with an obvious Red Sox fan who wants my players. He's offering:

Longoria, Dunn, Hamilton, Nathan, Ubaldo for my Youkilis, Crawford, Lester, Paplebon, Aramis, Davis

Here's both rosters:

my team:
Kurt Suzuki
Kevin Youkilis
Robinson Canó
Aramis Ramírez
Ian Desmond
Adam Lind
Aaron Hill
Carl Crawford
Andre Ethier
Brett Gardner
Rajai Davis
Austin Jackson
Reid Brignac
Jason Bartlett
Juan Rivera

Jon Lester
Justin Verlander
Roy Oswalt
Ryan Dempster
Neftali Feliz
Jonathan Papelbon
Leo Núñez
James Shields
Johnny Cueto
Kevin Slowey
Jake McGee
Kyle Drabek
Jonathon Niese

his team:
Geovany Soto
Adam Dunn
Dustin Pedroia
Evan Longoria
Stephen Drew
Carlos Peña
Starlin Castro
Josh Hamilton
Curtis Granderson
Vernon Wells
David Ortiz
Manny Ramírez
Jason Kubel
Scott Rolen
J.D. Drew
Jhonny Peralta
Russell Branyan
Travis Hafner

Ubaldo Jiménez
Chris Carpenter
Clay Buchholz
Josh Beckett
David Aardsma
Joe Nathan
Johan Santana
Anibal Sánchez
Joel Zumaya
A.J. Burnett

I have some concerns with the trade. Firstly I'm giving up my SBs and secondly Paplebon is better than Nathan right now. Nathan is coming off surgery and I don't even know if he'll be effective as he once was. For all I know, Capps could win the closing job. I appreciate all input and feedback and let me know if it's worth considering or if I should make counter offers. Thanks!

Longoria is a major upgrade over Youkilis, who seems to miss about 20-30 games at least every year.

Hamilton/Crawford is tough, because you're giving up your SB, but other than that, the numbers could be very similar, and the power numbers theoretically will be in Hamilton's corner.

I guess we should compare the Chicago players--Dunn is (far and away) better than A-Ram. Better HR and RBI, comparable average.

Davis, Papelbon, Lester...and you get Ubaldo and Nathan back. You get a worse starter (but Longoria/Hamilton/Dunn could be worth it)...but it's not an unbearable change. Papelbon is not as great as you think, and considering he has Jenks and Bard (who has an absolute filthy arm) one injury or one slip-up could cost him the position. Nathan I'm confident will get back to his old form quickly, and hold onto what will be a lucrative closing position.

I think for the upgrade to Longoria, I'd do this trade. However, because of the Red Sox lineup and because of Lester's general greatness, I understand if you want to hold on to pieces like Crawford, Youk, and Lester.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

I think you win a little bit so I would go ahead and do the trade. But it is pretty even so no problem if you don't want to pull the trigger.
