Pretty excited about all of this. It's not often you can add an ace without moving any blue-chippers. It's kind of like when the Mets added Johan Santana for Carlos Gomez/Phil Humber/Deolis Guerra/Kevin Mulvey. I think Cain will be a solid big-leaguer...he's a quality defender at a premium position while having what should be at least an adequate bat. I had soured on Escobar and his poor approach at the plate, but again he's a quality defender at an up-the-middle position. I think Jeffress and Odorizzi are the key pieces in the deal. Odorizzi could be a #2/#3 SP soon enough and Jeffress could be closing out games.
That said, I'll take Greinke. Exciting rotation now, as good as any in the NL outside Philly and San Fran in my opinion. St. Louis will have good pitching too, but this puts us right there. Now that they've held onto Prince, the lineup will be good again too.
SP5 Narveson/M. Rogers/Capuano?
1. Weeks 2B
2. Hart RF
3. Braun LF
4. Fielder 1B
5. McGehee 3B
6. Gomez/Dickerson CF
7. Lucroy C
8. Counsell/Cruz/hopefully not Betancourt? SS
Lineup dies off a bit after 5, but those top 5 are good enough to put runs on the board, and they have some pitching to help them out for once.
