Yep. I took the battery out of my garage door opener and gave it the standard test. Been doing this my whole life.

I've also grabbed an electric fence at my grandpa's farm. That is very much not recommended, especially if you're older and have heart issues. It's a good way to have your heart explode through your chest wall and land 30 feet away in a puddle of pain and stupid.

Yes, those suck. My Mother's cousin owns a dairy farm and we used to visit some summers. We are walking from the barn to the house but they don't turn on the fences all the time so some are hot and some aren't It was funny when my 2nd cousin grabbed the wire and pretended to get shocked. It was not funny when he told me the fence was off and it wasn't. :-[

I thought everyone did that, but I had a coworker react with horror when I put one to my tongue to test it last year.

Heh. My parents still farm the chunk of land that I grew up on. It still freaks my mom out when we visit and I just grab the electric fence to see if it's on. :-D
