I'm glad he stays in Minnesota, but 184 mil seems quite a bit high.

Actually, I doubt it. Pujols doesn't sketch out as the type of player that the Red Sox would give the contract that Pujols would be asking for. Thirty years old this year and thirty one the next.... even for Pujols, I don't think they'd go over 4 or 5 years at that age and he deserves, and will get, at least 8.

Sounds something more like what the Dodgers or Mets would do.

The way the Red Sox have fiddled about with their 1b/3b kinda looks like they don't want to put all their eggs in one basket, like they're waiting for someone. Could be either Adrian Gonzalez or Bertie. With Ortiz most likely not returning they could have both playing for them 8-o

I think they were waiting for Mauer.

If they get Mauer, VMart moves to 1B, Youkilis moves to 3B, and Beltre's contract gets non-renewed. Or if they traded for Adrian Gonzalez, which also fits their player profile, they could leave VMart at C, Youkilis moves over to 3B, and same thing with Beltre.

But I don't see them selling the farm for Pujols.

Great for Mauer. Good for the Twins in the short run. Bad for the Twins in 2018, 2017, and maybe 2016.

Johnny Bench, Mike Piazza, Jason Varitek (obviously not in Mauer's league as a hitter, but still a silver slugger winner), Yogi Berra, I-Rod, ect... will tell you that certain thing happen to catchers at around age 33-34: either fall they apart at the plate, start getting more and more injuries, or need to be moved to a new defensive position (or all three).

Mauer's deal look's good now, but be warned it will hurt the Twins down the line.

I would have to think that they're planning on Mauer playing 1B/DHing a lot by 2014 when Morneau is out of his current deal. I can't believe they gave him an 8 year deal though, and really they have him in a 9 year contract now since this deal doesn't start until 2011.
