3rd base is a tricky position nowadays. I remember 10 years ago when that was probably the deepest position. I'm tempted to go early on a 3rd basemen.

Mauer has the potential to hit for a full season next year, though. I'm not saying he gets much past 28 HR, maybe 25 only, but I could also see him at .330/25/100/100/10. And that's worth more than Tulowitzki's .290/30/100/100/20 out of shortstop last year, considering how bad catcher is compared to every other position.

I think Mauer will finish as the top catcher, but I just can't imagine spending a first round pick on a catcher, to much injury risk. I have a bad feeling that Arron Hill won't be repeating his 09 season

Def Joe Mauer.

3rd base and to a lesser extent SS is extremely shallow. The drop off from top tier is huge.

Wandy Rodriguez way overrated.

Yahoo has him going on average at pick 87. Mid 7th round. 2008 he was ok, 2009 and pretty good. No way I see him putting up numbers even close to 2009. Yahoo has him going ahead of guys like Nolasco, Cain, Baker and Billingsley. No thanks.

I took Longoria at pick 8 over Tex, Cabrera, and Howard. Prince was the only 1B I would have taken before Evan. By the time I took Morneau in the 4th, all of the elite 3B were off the board (Zimm, Youk, Pablo, Reynolds). I wanted no part of Aramis and had some serious reservations about Pablo and Reynolds anyway.

Then later on I got Berkman and Ortiz with Berkman especially having a much higher upside than any 3B that can be had after about the 4th round.

Moral of the story for me was that Longoria seems like as sure a bet as anyone to repeat last year's numbers which is all I'm asking for and there's far more useful 1B's than 3B's throughout the draft. In all the mocks I did, I always preferred my teams that didn't take a 1B in round 1.

If he did repeat his '09 season then you should be taking him in the first round.
