He was injured.

But a slow start and a left knee injury cost him his spot, one gobbled up by Emilio Bonifacio, who took over at third base and enters this season as the utility man.

they are already looking at their options

According to The Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi, there is a situation where IF Jorge Jimenez could open the season at third base for the Florida Marlins. Capozzi speculates if 1B Logan Morrison or 1B Gaby Sanchez do not play well in spring camp, 3B Jorge Cantu could open the season at first and allow Jimenez, a Rule 5 selection, to open 2010 in the majors.

1. Who will man the corners?
Gonzalez said recently that if the season opened now, the Marlins would start Jorge Cantu at third base and Gaby Sanchez or Logan Morrison at first. But there is a month of exhibition games to be played, and they will determine who plays where on April 5 when the Marlins open at the Mets.

In addition to the competition at first, rookie third baseman Jorge Jimenez will get a look. Acquired via the Astros in the Rule 5 draft, Jimenez has the advantage of being a lefthanded hitter on a team lacking lefthanded hitters. If Sanchez and Morrison falter and Jimenez hits, he could end up at third with Cantu returning to first. There also is a chance the club could add a veteran, though pickings are becoming slim.

A good spring and Sanchez could be the starting 1B for the Marlins come opening day with Jorge Cantu manning 3B and making Bonifacio a utility player which is a role he is probably best suited for. Sanchez has a short swing, hits for average and some scouts feel he has the ability to be 25HR guy. Sanchez did turn 26 in September and Logan Morrison is knocking on the door so this spring Sanchez needs to come up with the goods.

watch list, at best :-o

he went on to have 300 some odd at bats in the minors, and i am sorry, if you can't beat Bonifacio out of a corner infield job .. meh!

CF Cameron Maybin may not bat second this season, after all. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Maybin would hit second when Grapefruit League action starts, but his spot in the order is “not set in stone.” Gonzalez is still considering batting either 1B Gaby Sanchez or 1B Logan Morrison second.

batting behind coghlan and before hanley and cantu means a lot of rbi and run opportunities. it's unlikely that the marlins will start logan in the majors as he has yet to face any AAA pitching and the marlins may not be ready to start his arb clock.

25-ish HR, 160-ish RBI+R due to his batting order spot...plus he stole 17 bases in only 478 AB at AA in 2008! That potential power/speed combo from a 1B will have me all over him in the late rounds. :-L :-L :-L

Hope this doesn't spread through Cafe leagues too quickly....either that or I want to play against more owners like you, wrveres! ;-D
