Taking everything into consideration, I'd take ARod over everyone. So, Arod, Pujols, then maybe Utley. Hanley's defensive limitations keeps me from putting him in my top 3.

he'd be on the list if we were taking intangibles into account.

Nah, David Eckstein would run away with it if intangibles were in play.

Mauer has been unbelievable the last 2 seasons, so he would be my choice as the 2nd best player in baseball behind Mr. Pujols.

WARP3 for 2006 -2009

Utley - 8.5 - 9.4 - 8.9 - 8.5
Hanley - 7.9 - 7.9 - 8.4 - 8.0
Mauer - 8.6 - 5.7 - 9.4 - 10.5

Mauer was Utley great, and he put those numbers up typically playing 20 fewer games a season than the others do.

So Utley has 8.8 WAR per year and Mauer only has 8.55 including this monster year. I'll still take Utley over him. To be fair if you are going to rate them just by WAR then Pujols isn't in the top 3 and might not be in the top 4.

Tav is using WARP3 from BP, and Pujols has lead the league each of 2006-08 (and is currently running second to Haren this year). ;-D
