Here's ten players off the top of my head better than Ichiro during their career, in no particular order:

Ruth
Gehrig
Ted Williams
Mantle
Mays
Aaron
Bonds
Cobb
DiMaggio
Wagner

Those aren't neccessarily who I think the top 10 players ever are either, just a quick and easy 10 better than Ichiro. Ichiro might be top 50 but I'm not even comfortable saying that without researching it.

You would have a tough time convincing me he is top 10 current, top 10 all time is laughable.

Pujols
Mauer
Gonzalez
Longoria
Utley
H. Ramirez
Cabrera
Fielder
A-Rod
Kemp
Braun
Crawford
Kinsler
Teixeira

I would take any of them over Ichiro in a heartbeat. Then you have the arguables
Werth
Zimmerman
Bay
Youkilis
Ethier
Cruz
Howard
Morneau
Bury me a Royal.

i believe its spelled Criff Ree.

Ichiro is awesome. very hard to compare him to other players becasue he has such a different approach at the plate. but take hitting out of the equation and you have easily one of the best fielder i've ever seen and a fantastic base runner. now you have to factor in how much impact he has on the game from the plate. he wears on pitchers, he frusterates defenses, he gets on base, he is always a threat to run, he doesn't strike out, very rarely hits into double plays.

I don't know where that ball player ranks all time, but I do know he has a huge impact on the game he is playing.

also, it would be nice to at least see Ricky Hendersons name mentioned in these lists. Ricky Henderson would like to say that Ricky Hederson thinks Ricky Henderson should be on these lists.

There has to be something about Ichiro that stats can't describe so well. The teams he plays for seemingly always over perform, especially in the international game. I understand putting most of those guys ahead of him despite his uniqueness and I'd add, but Crawford? You should consider consistency and discipline (intelligence?), which Crawford seriously lacks when compared to Ichiro. I throw Teix out too because I'm not convinced he's that good unless the other players around him are.

The amazing defense, consistency, speed, intangibles and ability to create productive contact make Ichiro an optimal outfield utility starter who bats second or eight in an NL lineup. When considering all factor including position Ichiro is definitely a top-ten starter in baseball.

ss - HanRam
2b - Utley
C - Mauer
1B - Pujols
lf - Braun
3b - Longoria/Arod
cf - Kemp
rf - Ichiro

I'd throw Holliday on your maybe list too.

There's an interesting article on Ichiro's HOF likelihood here http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/artic ... which-one/

I like this stat:

Comparing Ichiro’s eight completed major league seasons to the best eight consecutive years of other great players, he stacks up well. The players I picked for comparison are Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente, Duke Snider, Reggie Jackson, Richie Ashburn, Tony Gwynn, Billy Williams, and Dave Winfield; contemporary outfielders Sammy Sosa, Manny Ramirez, and Vladimir Guerrero, and one more, Tony Oliva.

Player WAR8 Years
Roberto Clemente 55.2 1964-71
Duke Snider 53.3 1949-56
Reggie Jackson 50.4 1969-76
Sammy Sosa 47.4 1995-02
Ichiro Suzuki 45.3 2001-08
Richie Ashburn 44.3 1951-58
Vlad Guerrero 43.9 1998-05
Tony Oliva 41.8 1964-71
Manny Ramirez 40.4 1996-03
Tony Gwynn 40.0 1984-91
Billy Williams 38.3 1963-70
Dave Winfield 34.9 1977-84
