Don't want to whine, but

Postby ball0918 » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:48 pm

Look at the injuries so far in my 5 X 5 NL Only team this season:

Webb--Out for year.
Maine--3-4 months
Delgado- 4 1/2 months
Ibanez--Missed 3.5 weeks.
Flores--4 months
Tavares--15 days to 1/5 months
Garrett Anderson--15 days
Brynes--2-3 months.
Santana--Traded Holliday for him and got 3 starts, now out for year.
Valvarde-MIssed 1.5 months.
Harden--Missed 3 weeks
Zambrano--2 15 day stretches on the DL
Harang--1.5 months
Anibal Sanchez--Missed 2.5 months.

I hate whiners, but had to complain--very frustrating. Don't know if there is anything else I could have done, except avoided Webb, but trusted that he would get through the "minor" shoulder issue. Still in 5th place in 10 man league, in spite of all this.

That's nothing compared to the Mets.

Maybe not, but 3 Mets on my list. Any advise on how to avoid some of this, other than hiring Dr. James Andrews to review my draft?

Outside of Harden I don't think any of those can be expected

Zambrano probably semi-expected too.

There's no way to avoid injuries.

I think one of my cafe teams has been the most injury plagued one I've ever had:

Jose Reyes - Out since May, done for the year
Webb - 4 innings and done
Justin Upton - Current DL stint
Randy Johnson - Current DL stint, likely out for the season
Frank Francisco - DL list twice
BJ Ryan - DL in April, then became worthless
ARam - Missed 2 months
Byrnes - Out for months, had to cut
Ricky Romero - Had him early, got hurt and out for a month, had to cut because of no space for him
Eric Milton - Was using in June, dropped when he went out for the year
David Price - Not hurt but no bench slots and the NA was brutal
Glaus - Still have him stashed, don't know why

I'm somehow in 5th of 14 right now. :-o

There were warning signs from day 1 with half of these guys....

Webb--Out for year.
Maine--3-4 months
Delgado- 4 1/2 months (over 35 yrs old)
Ibanez--Missed 3.5 weeks. (over 35 yrs old)
Flores--4 months
Tavares--15 days to 1/5 months
Garrett Anderson--15 days (over 35 yrs old)
Brynes--2-3 months. (Missed most of last year and is approaching mid 30's)
Santana--Traded Holliday for him and got 3 starts, now out for year.
Valvarde-MIssed 1.5 months.
Harden--Missed 3 weeks (Normal....actually might have expected more DL time)
Zambrano--2 15 day stretches on the DL (Not suprising by the amount he's been used early in his career)
Harang--1.5 months
Anibal Sanchez--Missed 2.5 months. (Been dinged up every year, not that suprising)

...pretty much 50% of those aren't really all that suprising....can you predict it, no, but you can't really be all that suprised by a few of those either.

I thought the same thing when I read the OP's original whine. This has been a good year for Harden, injury wise. I'd be glad about this... :-b

Same.
Plus how do you complain about Ibanez missing 3.5 weeks? He's 37 years old and put better stats than almost everyone thought he would do.

Since this seems to be the crying thread....

I'm sitting 8th out of 12 in a weekly transation Cafeholics roto league with no bench thanks to what I thought was a decent pitching staff turning out terribly. With no bench, I thought I had guys I could relatively safely trot out there every day. Got a whopping 18 points on the pitching side !+) , and 8 of those are for saves. :~( Anyway, here's how it went:

4th - Webb - Was either Webb or Halladay and I had Webb as more consistant :~(
8th - Lidge - Didn't expect perfection again, but certainly didn't expect a 7+ ERA. :~(
10th - Jon Lester - 3.60/1.23 - not going to complain.
11th - Kerry Wood - 4.60 ERA - ugh. :-/
12th - Joba - What the heck happened to this guy? 4.34/1.51? :~(
18th - Jered Weaver - 4.03/1.24 - ERA hurts, whip is ok. :-/
19th - Wang - 8-o - Thought I was getting a great deal in the 19th round. 8-o :~( 8-o
21st - Buehrle - 3.92/1.22 - See Weaver. :-/
23rd - Maine - Knew it was a gamble.

I wasn't stoked or on top of the world thinking I had a great draft or anything, I knew my hitting was stronger than my pitching, but I at least thought this staff could do a decent job. Boy was I wrong! 8-o :~(
