Who is the better free agent pick up?

So who made out better Cardinals with John Smoltz or Dodgers with Vincente Padilla.

IMO I like Padilla in L.A., since it's a better pitchers park and feel John Smoltz is done.

Smoltz by quite a bit IMO. His stuff still looked good to me, though he struggled with location at times...he got really unlucky IMO. Here is an article that supports that:

There is no such thing as a worse free agent pickup than Padilla, so Smoltz by default.

I think Smoltz will be okay as long as he is a 7th or 8th inning guy, but doubt as a starter he goes past the 5th inning often

Padilla 2009
8-6 4.92 59k's 1.50WHIP

Smoltz 2009
2-5 8.33 33k's 1.70WHIP

True Padilla hasn't ben that great his last few games but was equal to Smoltz, plus Padilla was recovering from swine flu and has been weaken, but is going to a pitchers park.

if they were both coming to pitch out of the bullpen i think i would pick Smoltz, but if theyre both coming to start i would think Padilla.
Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan is known for being good for pitchers. hes done some good work with cast offs from other teams (Wellemeyer/Pineiro/Looper?) so maybe he can get more out of Smoltz than people think?

Meh they are both marginal. I guess the downside is minimal but that is the only reason why the Sox signed him in the first place but even they let him go already.

The Rangers were rumored to be trying to trade padilla, cuz they were fed up with his attitude, probably even waived him and found no takers so they just let him go
