How much did YOUR team spend in the draft?

Postby CadensDad » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:18 pm

Baseball America has listed in order how much each team spent on the draft, (As well as how many picks each team had, and how many actually signed.)

Just to pour some salt on the Mets wounds, they spent the least on the draft. (Followed closely by the Rangers) But the Mets had 9 picks and signed 7 of them, for a mark of 1,864,300. To me that is just sad for a team that has ZERO in the farm.

Nats, Mariners, Tigers, Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies Pirates top the list,
Red Sox outspent the Yankees on something for once. Few other interesting things in there though

Does anybody really think Crow is doing himself any favors by refusing to sign for TWO years in a row?

Crow can still sign. I think he was waiting to see all the over-slots to use for leverage. I can't imagine him not signing again. Matt Harrison ring a bell? He's working for Costco now. :-b

Crow will sign. Chances are he will sign for about the same amount he was offered last year, so he basically wasted a year. In free agency terms he might have actually lost out on the deal.

I agree he will sign.

Just for fun, let's say he doesn't. How much does he stand to lose by sitting out yet another year?

The Mets spending $1.8 mil is hilarious.

Depending on fast he makes it to the majors he will likely be 30 by the time his first full free agency year hits if he signs now. He is basically trading off prime free agency years for maybe an extra million of signing bonus. Even he is just a league average pitcher that might be 9-10 million a year by that time.

The Jays didn't sign 3 of their top 4 picks. It's nice to know that the owners are re-allocating that Rios money right into their pockets.
