Two rookie pitchers who have "got it" recently......

Both Oakland SPs, Brett Anderson and Gio Gonzalez.

Anderson's July line: 33.2 IP, 1 HR, 9 BB, 33 Ks. :-L
His K rate has really taken off from June onwards. :-L :-L :-L :-L :-L :-L :-L

Gio Gonzalez's overall numbers look awful, but he's recently been through the @ NYY, @ BOS, vs TEX and @ Cleveland (before they traded everyone) buzzsaw, and came out of it with flying colours.

Anderson might get skipped a couple of times (Oakland just acquired Brett Tomko for that woohoo), but Gio shouldn't be as he has several 150+ innings seasons under his belt.

Buy buy buy. ;-D

Anderson I'm buying even with the expectation that his Ks will come back down. Gio still walks too many for me to be comfortable with.

I'm betting Anderson turns out to be the best pitcher out of the 09 rookie corp. His velocity has dramatically increased this year and he's been very good the last month or so. Not too many big lefties who can regularly throw in the mid to upper 90s with good command especially when you consider his age.

I think the 5 MPH increase in his fastball is a sign that his K's will go up, not down. His slider is ridiculous and his change up is coming along as well. He and David Price switched bodies this year (?)

Agreed on Gio. He's always been consistently wild so I think it will take him longer to figure it out.

By the way, he is only a month older than Kershaw. He's got plus stuff, command, control, poise, groundball tendency and everything going for him. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Porcello I believe is only Behind Pinero and someone else in the entire majors in groundball ratio. Leads the Majors in double plays(18). All the while never pitching above class A and being the youngest pitcher in all of baseball. Holding his own ERA wise. Yes the k's are weak, but I'm absolutely confident once he refines that curve he will become a 6-7 k per 9 pitcher. And with those other components thats Roy Halladay terrotory. By far he has the highest celling. Tommy Hanson and him both. Sorry Anderson is a nice pitcher but he's no Rick Porcello.

What a homer.

Ricky Romero is the rookie people should be targeting. :-D
