Was watching the Yanks game tonight a little bit. Gavin floyd was throwing a lot of backdoor sliders/ maybe even screwballs to left-handed hitters. Is this something he normally does? or is this a new pitch he's been playing with? Because he had 10 K tonight against a predominantly LH Yankee lineup, and has really risen his K rate vs. LHB this year dramatically....

He's always thrown a lot of breaking stuff, but it has usually just been the standard curveball. Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch a lot of their games (I'm in Chicago but don't have cable), so I'm not sure when he added this pitch. It could help explain his recent run of success if it is a new one though.
