My First Auction...WHIR

Postby sublime8414 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:16 pm

Been doing drafts for many years, now and this is my first auction.

6x6 (add OPS and Holds). 10 teams. I made a poor mistake and left $$ on the table, but i guess live and learn. Also i didn't realize he had a 9 GS max each week. Do you think 7 SP is too many? If so, who would you move for what?

C Russell Martin -$13
1B Joey Votto - $15
2B Alexei Ramirez - $9
SS Hanley Ramirez - $43
3B Chipper Jones - $20
SS Hanley Ramirez - $43
MI Kelly Johnson - $8
CI Carlos Delgado - $7
LF Jason Werth - $5
CF Chris young - $7
RF Corey Hart - $10
OF Andre Either - $5
Util David Ortiz - $12

SP Javier Vazquez $13
SP Yovani Gallardo - $15
RP Fransisco Rodriguez -$14
RP Heath Bell -$5
RP Hong-Chih Kuo - $1
RP Brandon Morrow - $2
SP Adam Wainwright - $11
SP Matt Cain - $8
SP Rich Harden $12
SP Ricky Nolasco - $9
SP Justin verlander $4
DL Joey Devine - $1

Hafner's on the WW would you move papi and try and grab hafner? Be harsh, and any advice is appreciated.

I don't know how important RP's roles in your 6 picthing categories, but the answer depends on it. If more than 3 categories among 6 are SP oriented, I would consider having even one more SP; however, if not, 7 is enough I guess. I really like your offense lineup and some breakout candidate SPs.
I have no particular opinion about changing the current squd as it seems solid- in addition, I have never experienced Auction league (only H2H league for several years).

Not a bad team, but I'm not a huge fan of Chris B. Young or Corey Hart. Both post lower OBP, so they may bring down your OPS while only posting good, but not great, numbers in the other categories. Personally, I would try to trade Verlander and Hart/Young for a better OF. Verlander will get you K's, but I'm not convinced his numbers will be significantly better than last year when he had a lot of fantasy owners cursing his name.

I'm in the same boat with Ortiz while Hafner floats on my waiver wire as well. You won't find a lot of takers for Ortiz right now and his $12 shows he wasn't highly prized even before the slow start (I paid $16 for him and regret not putting that towards an OF myself). For now, I think your best option is to leave Hafner alone and hope Ortiz turns it around helping first your team, and his trade value second!

Please help my similar situation: viewtopic.php?t=378763 . Thanks!
