Did I really do that badly...?

Postby lachlanoddy » Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:57 pm

The draft was like a visit to the dentist. I have never drafted from mid-position before, and ended up with the 6th pick out of 10 teams. It seemed like every pick got stolen by one of the 2 guys before me, and I was scrambling the whole time. I basically ended up flying through with no plan whatsoever... what plans and backups I did have got totally blown out of the sky...!

Anyway... I consider my SP to be way weaker than I hoped for, but I am gambling on my RP working out for me and maybe even giving me trade options...?

10 teams

We score:
R, HR, RBI, SB, K, AVG, OPS, CYC (not happy with the OPS being in there... this seems a very 'big power' oriented set of categories don't you think? Obviously the CYC is sillyness)
W, CG, SV, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP, NH (NH is sillyness...!)

My team;

C.... Russel Martin (LAD, C, 3B)
1B... Miguel Cabrera (DET, 1B, 3B)
2B... Chone Figgins (LAA, 2B, 3B)
3B... Edwin Encarnacion (CIN, 3B)
SS... J.J. Hardy (MIL, SS)
OF... Alfonso Soriano (CHC, OF)
OF... Johnny Damon (NYY, OF)
OF... Vladimer Guerrerro (LAA, OF)
UT... Justin Morneau (MIN, 1B)
UT... Jhonny Peralta (CLE, SS)
BN... Pat Burrell (TB, OF)
BN... Milton Bradley (CHC, OF)

SP... Francisco Liriano (MIN, SP)
SP... Chad Billingsley (LAD, SP)
RP... Mariano Rivera (NYY, RP)
RP... Brian Fuentes (LAA, RP)
RP... Billy Wagner (NYM, RP)
P.... Frank Francisco (TEX, RP)
P.... Chris Ray (BAL, RP)
BN... Felix Hernandez (SEA, SP)
BN... Carlos Zambrano (CHC, SP)
BN... Matt Garza (TB, SP)

Leave a link and I will try to look at yours...

The avg cat may be your biggest deficit. Looks like you have a decent group of power guys. Your SP is not bad but trying to move a closer may be helpful (but difficult).

I am not a huge fan of your bench (Burrell, Bradley), but I think overall your team will be very good considering. The only other hole is that you might want to trade some of your quality RP to upgrade at the SP position. But, like I said, you should be good.

I feel you about draft position. I was 6th in one of mine and didn't like it. I had the same problem, guys would be taken right before my pick, and there was also an autopick two picks ahead me that was killing me.

Regardless, I think you have a great team there. You won't win AVG., but that doesn't mean it's terrible. You have sluggers and base stealers, and some that are both which will help with OPS. I don't think you really need Burrell because you have power. You'd probably be better off with a real solid all around guy with a good AVG. (like Milton Bradley, who I like).

I also like the idea of an RP for a SP.

Inevitably, someone skimped on relief pitching. Try to shop an RP around.

I'm also mildly concerned about your infield.
