Trade Roberts for Phillips?

Postby TheAverageJoes » Thu Mar 19, 2009 12:27 pm

I don't like to get caught up in rankings...so..

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to trade brian roberts for brandon phillips and upgrade my power at the 2b position.
They both have speed. The only difference I can see is that brandon phillips will hit for less average.. but it's likely he'll trump
brian roberts in homers.

Futhermore..my league is quite small..with only 8 teams..
So it's my objective to pull away from a pack of teams that are very stacked.

My complete team is as follows:

C Brian McCann (C,Util , ATL)
1B Lance Berkman (1B,Util , HOU)
2B Brian Roberts (2B,Util , BAL)
3B Chris Davis (1B,3B,Util , TEX)
SS Jose Reyes (SS,Util , NYM)
OF Brad Hawpe (OF,Util , COL)
OF Nick Markakis (OF,Util , BAL)
OF Carlos Lee (OF,Util , HOU)
U Manny Ramirez (OF,Util , LAD)

Bench:
Bn Jorge Cantu (1B,3B,Util , FLA)
Bn Stephen Drew (SS,Util , ARI)
Bn Carl Crawford (OF,Util , TB)
Bn Carlos Delgado (1B,Util , NYM)
Bn Bobby Abreu (OF,Util , LAA)
Bn Carlos Pena (1B,Util , TB)

I would rather have Roberts than Phillips.

You can find power throughout the season. Roberts is better than Philips for sure.

I decided to go in a different direction...
I will be keeping Brian Roberts and
I think I have found a way to supplement his expected homers total.
You be the judge

I've since traded Carl Crawford for Andre Ethier...

& Although I was slightly hesitant in trading the 38th ranked outfielder
in my league for the 71st...

I agreed to this deal to grease the wheels
on a trade in which:
I sent the Red sox pitching staff and highly touted AL ROY canidate Weiters(catcher)
for Manny Ramirez and Lance Berkman.

My mind is eased by the fact that Ethier will
improve on a pretty good season last year
with Manny's protection benefitting him for a full season.

And being that Crawford and Ethier both would have
been bench players on my team...
I felt confident to take what is in my mind an "on paper" loss.

Good moves?
Logically I feel I bettered my team a great deal.

I don't think you'll need to worry about adding Phillips here. Roberts doesn't give you as many homers, but he's solid everywhere else, and has been better in steals. Your team should be able to hit for enough power to keep up with everybody else there. So it comes down to whether or not you want to take the hit in batting average that Phillips showed last year. I probably wouldn't want to, but I like Roberts quite a bit this year.

i agree with the above comments, roberts is better in my opinion. your moves already brought in power so i would forget about this if you were still thinking about it

any thoughts http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=372593
