This may have been discussed approx 8 pages ago, but is it worth stashing Chris Perez?

Yes, I think it is. Once healthy in AAA, I think he'll be up.

From Rototimes.
MLB.com reports that Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston would prefer not to use closer B.J. Ryan on consecutive days. Scott Downs and Brandon League would see closing opportunities if Ryan is bypassed.

In light of this, who is the better option: Ryan or Lindstrom? Ziegler? Balfour/Percival/Wheeler? Gonzalez? or Sherrill.

Aggghh! I should have drafted a closer earlier.

I hate closers....

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Whattever it is, I likes it!

I wouldn't get too excited here. From Yahoo:

"Recommendation: Balfour entered the game with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate, struck out Jed Lowrie to end the threat, and returned for the ninth after the Rays added on another run -- so don't take this as him usurping Troy Percival's closer role."

FWIW, Capps was getting hit extremely hard last night. Rasmus nearly took him yard (just foul) in the 1st AB and ended up just missing a homer again when he flew out to the CF warning track. He then got Greene out on a hard line drive that couldve just as easily been a double down the line. Whether or not Capps was just laying them in there, trying to avoid a BB and having to face Pujols, I dont know. But its safe to say that he wasnt fooling anyone with his fastball. Worth keeping an eye on I think.

p.s. is post game commentary suitable for this thread?

Is there any chance that Scioscia plays the match up game with Fuentes?

Depends if you think Scioscia can get away from the traditional closer mentality. A lot of managers just like the easy option.

Fuentes looked pretty limp-wristed this afternoon. A couple more outings like that and there could be some Fuentes hysteria on here.

Wouldn't get worried about this at all. Last night he should've been out of the game with no runs twice. But because he let up a swinging bunt that he and Napoli couldn't communicate on, and Gary Matthews Jr. is playing out the string and not playing hard, he blew the save. Not a big deal, he looked fine last night.
