Update -

First 22 games of the season: 7 R, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 0 SB (52/15/110/0 pace over 162 games) .223 AVG, .621 OPS, .278 BB/K
Following 31 games: 22 runs, 6 HR, 22 RBI, 4 SB (115/31/115/21 pace) .352 AVG, 1.055 OPS, 1.4 BB/K

Last year Holliday ended the year with a .232 AVG and .662 OPS in September, and the rest of the year he had a .334 AVG and a .989 OPS. Could April be his OBM? He seems to have gotten rid of the butterflies, especially with his K/BB rate quintupling between the two periods.

Big turn around, I would be surprised if he didn't keep it up.

tribefan08 wrote:thank you mark... 1) i was drinking when i posted my original post 2) it was pretty much a bold prediction, do i really think he hits for that? NO probably not 3) i think people are looking into some of this wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much 4) if you want to avoid holliday thats cool, but some of the thought processes i've read, wow, its about as bad as he leaves coors and yahoo downgrades him to a rank in the 30's.....

I just want Holliday to absolutely mash this year and people who posted all over this thread with their %'s and their "matt plays 14.2% at this park and 9% at this park" BS to realize hey, Holliday is a good hitter, he's still gonna be good, fantasy wise is he a first rounder? At the moment in theory, NO, but this season will let us know, and i'd much rather have Holliday in the first round than take Ian "i can't make it thru a full year" Kinsler or the overrated Jimmy Rollins (at least he's a SS tho i will say that)

I'm done, lets have baseball start and end all the debates!

Consider the debate ended. I wanted to revisit this post since it was entertainingly polarized and created some heated debate. Tribefan, we have been vindicated.

Vindicated? The argument was whether Holliday was being overrated and wasn't worth being drafted where he was getting picked way too early. Holliday was getting drafted 16th as the 4th best outfielder. I said I wouldn't draft him in the first two rounds at least.

Tribefan predicted a 100-35-120-15-.325 - an "MVP season"

Didn't see if you predicted any specific numbers for Holliday other than the "numbers would be there in October"

I was one of the most vocal about how Holliday should not be picked in the first or second round or as a top 5 OF and he'd be more like 100/100 25/10 with a .900 OPS. Another large part of my hypothesis was that the NL sucks and Holliday would struggle going to the AL.

So, Holliday had an .830 OPS in the AL, and has been on fire since moving back to the NL.

Still though, his aggregate season so far (pace):
100 runs 26 homers 110 rbi 16 steals with a .316/.396/.534 line for a .930 OPS. He's currently ranked as the 6th best OF according to ESPN and 23rd overall.

So Holliday has been better than I expected, but nowhere near as good as Tribefan said, nor as good as his normal numbers. And really, the only thing that saved his fantasy season was getting traded to the NL. He definitely wasn't worth his ADP.

I wouldn't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back.

yeah, I think you can call this one a wash. I took him at picks 17 and 28 in two leagues this year. I'm happy he was traded and is coming through with the end of season numbers he has now, but that april he had was not fun for his owners while his mediocre may and june looked great relative to the disgusting april line of 5 R, 1 HR, 12 RBI .240....5 effin runs over 75 AB.

Those that didn't draft him in the 2nd rd are probably fine with that decision, while those of us that took him in the 2nd should be grateful for the trade.
