On rotoworld.com & the AP this evening:
Giants signed LHP Randy Johnson, who had been with the Diamondbacks, to a one-year contract.
Johnson preferred to join a West Coast team after the Diamondbacks declined to make him a fair offer, and he picked the Giants over the A's and perhaps the Dodgers. The Brewers and Angels were also supposed to be interested. Johnson won't throw 200 innings at age 45, but he'll likely be an above average starter when healthy. He's a good deal at anything less than $10 million, and it'd come as no surprise to learn that the Giants got him for $6 million-$7 million.
With a rotation of Lincecum, Cain, Unit & Sanchez plus the signing of Renteria & young players like Fred Lewis, Sandoval & Ishikawa on the rise could SF be a sleeper this up coming season?
