Olney Suggests Neutral Site for World Series

Postby JTWood » Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:43 pm

I'm not an "Insider," but the headline says it all:

"World Series needs warmth, neutral site"

Someone was complaining about the weather stoppages during the World Series. I joked, "Don't worry. Before long, every stadium will have to be domed, we'll play 365 days per year, and the union will demand that each player get at least 2 months off to rest thus forcing rosters to expand to more than 25 players for the entire year."

Maybe I shouldn't have opened my mouth.

Seriously, though... I can't imagine baseball on a neutral site. How boring. :-t

It's just an idea so I don't say he gets hung for it.

But it's a stupid idea.

It is not the wisest of choices. But baseball was not ment to be played in the snow.
A long season like that kind of makes teams play in the cold at the beginning or the end.

I like the idea of going back to more double headers. A week to 10 days can make all the difference between decent weather and crap in many areas.
If it's obvious it's probably true.

just eliminate some of those off days inbetween series.start the series 2 days after the prev 1 gets over, we'd have had 2 long stretches of no playoff baseball if Bost hadn't come back in game 5

That doesn't mesh well with the TV population. The days off are designed with a specific, goal in mind: money.

I actually like the idea of a neutral site. At least it is better than the All Star Game determining home field advantage for example.

I think I'm the only guy in a 500 mile radius who likes the All-Star-Game-determining-home-field-advantage thing. I just really enjoy the all star game and I like having it be uber-meaningful.
