Those who think there's no chance Andruw Jones rebounds, please consider Jim Edmonds. The guy looked as cooked as any player in baseball at the start of this season and managed to find his way to 19 HR in 250 AB with the Cubs this season.

Andruw Jones is pretty fat. Fortunately, there's medicine for that...if he's got the will.

All that being said, I don't think there's any reason whatsoever to draft Andruw Jones. Even if he's capable of dozens of HRs, (1) it's more likely than not that he'll continue to suck, (2) there are others who swim in "potential" who won't be drafted, (3) he'll suck up a roster spot and roster space has currency, (4) there's a decent chance he'll be available on free agency to claim later, and (5) you won't lose any sleep the morning after the draft if someone else takes him.

This is why I would take a flier on Andruw. He has a less than 2% chance of hitting between 40 and 50 HR's with a .270 average. But, it could happen, and that is huge upside which is worth gambling on. If it doesn't work, he can always be dropped and someone else out of the free agency pool (Kubel, Asdrubal, Eric Chavez, etc.) with upside (but not as much) can be picked up.

I dunno, Edmonds was one year removed from a solid 100+ OPS+.

If Jones comes to Spring Training overweight he's a damn fool. I'm sure his agent doesn't want that gravy train to stop and told him(andruw) to get his S#!t together. He's still young, he'd be throwing away millions if he can"t lay off the Donuts.

I didn't go dig up a source, but I recall reading that ownership forced the front office to go get Andruw with that 2 year contract. The GM didn't want him.
