Thoughts on Volquez's future?

Postby Zito is God » Tue Oct 07, 2008 8:48 pm

Hamilton has obviously gone to town in Texas, but what about the other side of the famous trade? Volques has good stuff, but his issues with walks looks like an early coming of Zambrano part 2. Coupled with the fact that he throws violently and thus may be prone to injury and I ask what you see in this kid's future?
Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!

I think more of the same we saw in 08. He will be erratic at times but go through some dominant stretches. Control is key as with most hard throwing kids with great stuff. I have a feeling he will hit a little more bumps in 09 and it would not surprise me at all if he never comes close to the season that he had in 08.

Zambrano part 2 seems like a fairly good comparison. Also I don't believe Volquez has ever had any arm issues, so it's possible he could have one of those rubber arms ... similiar to Zambrano. As far as Hamilton goes, don't get me wrong he is a great talent, but his season wasn't that good when compared to how greatly inflated his stats were due to his home ballpark.
