Honestly I think NASCAR gets a bad rap. I used to think the same types of things until I started watching it. There's just so much going on in a race that you don't appreciate unless you take the time to try to figure it out. I liken it to chess at 200 mph. There's a ton of strategy involved, from tires and gas to tweaking your car on the fly (especially when the races go from day to dusk to night, the track changes immensely), you've got to figure out when to use your stuff and when it makes sense to just ride around. And to think of how mentally there those guys have to be is crazy. You've got 43 cars on the track, racing side-by-side, going close to 200 mph for 4 hours, and every lap counts. At this point I'd rather watch a Cup series race than an NFL or NBA game, no question about it.
Anyway, it was awesome. Top speed was probably 150 or 160. The amazing thing was how much speed you carry into the corner and then when he pulls down the car just sticks at the bottom. It was crazy. The Gs were pretty crazy in there.
For those of you that don't follow NASCAR, Kyle wrecked Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Richmond in the spring race like 4 laps from the end when Junior was winning. Then Junior got some payback in the fall Richmond race a couple weeks back when Kyle was leading and Junior wrecked Kyle. Anyway, both were basically just racing incidents. Anyway, when I was getting out of the car yesterday and was thanking Kyle, I told him I appreciated it "even if you did take out my boy Junior at Richmond." And he just laughed and said "Yeah well he got me back so it's ok." It was pretty funny and at least I know the guy has a sense of humor.
I'll get some pictures hosted and up as soon as I can.
