How can you say they are not even close???

Markakis isn't a prospect, and those 9 HRs, 23 R, and 11 RBI you're granting aren't negligible, that's a significant difference...at this point they're really not close. There's always the possibility that Jones will out produce Markakis from here on out, but it's not likely, and someone would be foolish to value them the same.

I said trade Marakakis for Adam Jones AND A top tier OF/SP. So, you can get a Marakakis -lite (or Markakis the 2nd in a year or so, IMO), and an elite OF/SP. Combined = way more production than Markakis alone.

And who are you going to drop to make that deal happen? 2-for-1's rarely favor the 2's.

:-b dont get me wrong jones is a good player with a lot of talent but u wont catch me lookin to move markakis for jones and someone else....Id much rather have markakis in my OF spot than jones and a pitcher who i would have to drop someone for anyway :-?

Love me some Adam Jones. Drafted him in my minor league draft last season. But I'd rather have Markakis.

The sad thing is, I've watched every O's game except a handful this year, and I couldn't guess who the players were. :|

I will defend the original poster: He was just pointing out that the disparity that the trade value gap between Markakis and Jones is greater than the performance gap, while acknowledging that a performance gap exists in an absolute sense. I don't see what is wrong with this. In some formats, such as AL-only or deep mixed leagues, exploiting disparities like this in 2 for 1 deals can be really helpful since the player that gets dropped is likely to be extremely marginal.

The real question is whether there really is a gap between perceived trade value and performance, and I can't really answer this.
