Sadly this is the reason for Miggy being bumped to 6th and the response from this listless team. Like most of you, I too know more about managing than Leyland. Leyland is hoping to instill some fear into the guys but they aren't scared. This veteran laden team couldn't care less when they step up to the plate. They swing without thought, continuing to have ininng after inning of bad ABs. 9 Shutouts in 55 games is a testement to that.
For some reason I still think they will find a groove and start hitting more consistantly, mostly Miggy himself will pick it up. But there will always be the rally kills like Pudge, Inge, or whoever plays LF/DH who keep another shutout a constant possibility.

Leyland needs to fire his batting coach soon. And put Cabrera in the 3-hole.

I've been preaching that point for about two years now.

And so we know that sanity isn't being totally restored, the Claymation figure once known as Carlos Guillen started in left field.

"At some point, track records have to do something too, or you look for someone else to play," manager Jim Leyland said. "You've got to play guys who are going to give you your best shot."

ah, track records. like, say, looking at cabreras 3 yr averages. a 1.026 ops in the 4 spot, .940 in the 3 spot.

in the 3 years prior to this season, thames has a .651 ops in the 3 spot, but a 1.061 in the 5 spot.

but he does have a .782 ops this season, to go with his whopping .301 obp and .247 avg. those are stats you want the 3 hole.
much better than mcab's .821 ops, .360 obp, .277 avg this year. makes perfect sense to me

I'm wondering if McMillen is hiding in the bushes at Comerica Park

Miggy back in the 6 spot this afternoon, providing protection for Jeff Larish. Is it officially time to form a mob, round up some pitchforks and torches, and head on down to Comerica?

Thames hitting 3rd, Larrish hitting 5th & MCab hitting 6th! :-P

WTF is wrong w/ this man? Honestly a 6th grader could form a more competent line up w/ these players than Leyland. The guy has flat out lost his mind.

What will it take for upper management to step in???

Is he really getting a free pass from the media in Detroit on this issue? Surely, someone in the media is getting as frustrated as we are.

I've always thought his goofball ideas were crazy, but in 2006 everything worked. For the last 2 years he's made some bad decisions, but this could be the worst. He keeps "shuffling the lineup" and it seems like he's tried everything but the logical decision of batting MCab 3rd or 4th. Now he's 6th, batting between Larish and Pudge! Hmmm I wonder why he can't get things going.
