your best hitter is struggling, so put him in a spot where he'll get even worse pitches to hit. that makes sense. the only reason i can think of for doing this is to try and 'send a message,' start hitting or else. if i owned mcab i'd be seriously pissed

Detroit paid a heavy price not only in the trade but on the contract, i doubt they were expecting a 5th/6th place hitter.

And a 1st base / DH hitter...

Leyland is letting something blind him here. This is an absolutely stupid decision. MCab would bat 3rd in any lineup IN THE LEAGUE save for the Red Sox.

what do those in Detroit say about this? writers/broadcasters?
when someone of Cabreras talent who has allready put up big numbers in previous season is batting in the 6th spot i would be surprised if noone said anything. are they blind and just ignoring that hes batting 6th??
if i was a sports writer id be asking Leyland, hey wtf you doing batting one of your star players 6th??

Sadly this is the reason for Miggy being bumped to 6th and the response from this listless team. Like most of you, I too know more about managing than Leyland. Leyland is hoping to instill some fear into the guys but they aren't scared. This veteran laden team couldn't care less when they step up to the plate. They swing without thought, continuing to have ininng after inning of bad ABs. 9 Shutouts in 55 games is a testement to that.
For some reason I still think they will find a groove and start hitting more consistantly, mostly Miggy himself will pick it up. But there will always be the rally kills like Pudge, Inge, or whoever plays LF/DH who keep another shutout a constant possibility.

Leyland needs to fire his batting coach soon. And put Cabrera in the 3-hole.

Back to 5th today with Guillen in the 3 hole.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!
