Good Karma Sold Here

Postby urbanbreez » Fri May 02, 2008 1:34 pm

H2h re-draft big money league, 12 teams.

I just made an uneasy move to trade two players (Burrell and Volquez) that I think are serious "sell high" canidates for a injury risk pitcher that is doing a great so far (Ben Sheets). I'm not sure how I feel about it right now, how would you feel?

Here is my team. Any advise or thoughts on where I should try and improve would be very appreciated.

C Dioner Navarro (TB - C)
1B Prince Fielder (Mil - 1B)
2B Aaron Hill (Tor - 2B)
3B Ryan Braun (Mil - 3B,OF)
SS Michael Young (Tex - SS)
OF Pat Burrell (Phi - OF)
OF Álex Ríos (Tor - OF)
OF Shane Victorino (Phi - OF)
Util Evan Longoria (TB - 3B)
SP Erik Bedard (Sea - SP)
SP Edinson Vólquez (Cin - SP)
RP Kevin Gregg (Fla - RP)
RP Jonathan Papelbon (Bos - RP)
P Eric Gagne (Mil - RP)
P Manny Acosta (Atl - RP)
P --empty--
BN Nick Swisher (CWS - 1B,OF)
BN J.R. Towles (Hou - C)
BN Jeff Clement (Sea - Util)
BN Chris Young (SD - SP)
BN James Shields (TB - SP)
BN Oliver Pérez (NYM - SP)

I would have kept Burrell - I think he's going to keep it up, being in a contract year. He hit well in the second half last year and seems to have carried it over. I wouldn't necessarily say it was a bad trade, but maybe you could have held out for just a little bit more than Sheets. In the end, I wouldn't lose sleep over it as long as Sheets can stay healthy. The Brewers are solid on offense, and once it kicks into gear, Sheets should be worth just that much more. Bedard, Sheets, Young and Shields is a solid core to build around.

I think your closers are adequate.

Not a huge Navarro fan (personally I would cut him loose), but you do have Clement you can pencil in to that slot once he's position eligible. You have an important trading chip in Longoria if you need to go that route. I'd leave Braun at third - he's more valuable there than in the OF (where I happen to be playing him). I think the rest is ok - just keep an eye on Victorino, and feel free to rotate in Swisher if/when he sits.

Thanks Felix, appreciate the analysis and I feel better about my trade (even though I'm not very happy with it) it's nice to hear that you can see it working out somehow, albeit a long-shot.
