Baseball giants The New York Mets were stunned when RICK ASTLEY’S classic hit Never Going To Give You Up scored a landslide victory in a vote to name the club’s next theme tune.
Organisers had offered choices such as JON BON JOVI’S Living On A Prayer – however more than FIVE million fans had apparently picked the cheesy 1987 hit to be played around the Mets’ stadium at each game during the final season.
Baffled why New Yorkers were desperate for a signature tune by a has-been pop star, club bosses later discovered they had fallen victim to the global phenomenon that is ‘Rickrolling’.
Minutes after posting the vote on their website last week cheeky Astley pranksters from online communities such as Fark and Digg urged readers to vote for Astley’s tune.
However their game was up after bosses saw the scam being discussed on message boards.
Embarrassed sources say the club will NOT abide by the final vote.
There will now be a ‘run-off’ where the top six songs, including Never Going To Give You Up, will be played on consecutive days. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... 025111.ece
