I have to write a research essay for one of my courses, so I chose to write about the 'Steroid Era' in baseball and the effect (or lack thereof) that it's had on the legitimacy of the record books and HOF. This stuff has been discussed ad nauseum here, so I was hoping you guys could help me out with some links. I could sift through 200 pages of Barry Bonds thread, but I've got things to do.
So far, I'm citing Aaron's book, "I Had a Hammer," where he admits to experimenting with greenies. I'm also taking a few articles on the prevalence of amphetamine-use in baseball, one detailing the history of it's use, and one as an account by Mike Schmidt. I'm thinking about using Bouton's book, "Ball Four," if I can find a copy. I haven't read it yet, but from what I've heard, there's a lot of talk about that type of stuff in there.
Can anyone provide me with the link about Babe Ruth and trick bats? I've been trying to find it, but no such luck yet.
And secondly, are there any other good sources that detail the history of cheating in baseball? I plan to look around for some stuff on doctored baseballs with Perry and the like, but if you guys have any other ideas, that'd be awesome. Thanks.
