Also, The Curse of Rick Astley is dumb. Can't happen. The song makes it perfectly clear that there are certain things Rick Astley would never do: give you up, let you down, run and around and desert you, make you cry, say goodbye, tell a lie, hurt you. I'm pretty sure a curse falls under several of those categories.

I'm thinking that was the main reason they decided to play it. Baseball people know that curses are very real. No point tempting fate here. Good job by the Mets to play the song and nip any potential curse in the bud.
