new rule: salary for FAA increases by month

We play an auction/keeper league and we started using a new rule last season. It has put an interesting twist on Free Agent Acquisition. Our league uses a relatively small number of drop/adds. We only start 14 players out of a roster of 26, so the 6 drop/adds that we have during the season seems reasonable (I know it will seem ridiculously small to some of you).

Previously, Free Agents all had a salary value of $1 to which $4 was added if you wanted to keep them for next season. Starting last season Free Agents salaries worked like this:

Free Agents acquired in April: $2
Free Agents acquired in May: $3
Free Agents acquired in June: $4
Free Agents acquired in July/August: $5

The idea was to give a little incentive to take more chances with your drop/adds at the start of the season. If you get a full season look at a guy before adding him , it should cost a little more to keep him. It's worked out reasonably well for us, more late season acquisitions will go back to the auction, and there are drawbacks to that. But overall it seems like owners are happy with it.

Just wanted to share something new that we tried.
