News: Astros closer Brad Lidge allowed two hits in an inning of work Monday afternoon at Milwaukee. He entered the game in the eighth inning, but was not used in the ninth inning for the save.
Analysis: Lidge remains the closer in Houston despite what his use on Monday would indicate. Sometimes, managers feel the eighth inning is more important than the ninth. Continue to use Lidge in leagues that reward saves.
I noticed that too. It would seem strange to make a closer change when Lidge had converted 7 of his last 8 chances while allowing only 2 hits and one walk total over those 8 games. Also Qualls blew a save while giving up 2 runs in the 8th inning yesterday. Didn't they just have a management change in houston? Maybe the new manager felt the need to mess with Lidge a little now that he was finally comfortable and dealing in the closers role again. Yanked him out of the closers role for at least a day and he gives up as many hits as his last 8 games combined. Way to go.dloke wrote:Lidge came in during the 8th today and Qualls got the Save.
