How far in the future? The safest bet is Hairston because Phillips (you are talking Brandon, right?) really lost his swing last season and there is no guarantee that he'll get it back; however, if he does then it would probably be Phillips. That's a big if though.

im thinking like a couple years in the future, and yes, brandon phillips

also, what are the chances hairston is in the starting lineup this year? make the team? play sometime this year?

Hairston's pegged to start, but if they don't trade Roberts he'll lose some playing time, especially if he struggles early. They did just sign Mclemore, so that may mean the chances of Roberts being traded increase.

In that case, it is Phillips easily, but you got to be patient.

Hairston is in the mold of Marcus Giles. The guy should hit for some power. Problem is, his defense is pretty bad. Unless he improves there, he is destined for the OF, and if he plays there he is just another average hitter.

Unless his defense improves I'd have to go with Phillips.
