With the Payton signing, he only has a sliver of a chance of starting for the Padres in 2004. Barring an injury, he may not see much playing time this upcoming season.

he will be ..shall we say, developing ....

actually I am kinda dissapointed that they didn't let him battle for a job. Maybe Kevin thought it was too many kids. I still can see a trade in the future so don't rule anything out. But as of right now. "X" has no fantasy value. Possibly in a keeper, but if he sits on the bench this year vs. AAA, I'd say it sets him back and I would stay away there too.

I just saw this:
Rotoworld.com wrote:Xavier Nady - Outfielder - Padres Feb. 4 - 1:37 pm et

Padres manager Bruce Bochy admitted yesterday that Xavier Nady likely will begin the season in Triple-A following the signing of Jay Payton.
"(Nady) does have an opportunity to make our club; he'll be in spring training," Bochy said. "But with the way it's shaping up, I'd say, yeah, there's a good chance he will have to go back down to Triple-A and get his at-bats." Nady doesn't seem displeased with the situation, and he'll likely get another extended chance in the majors before the end of the year. He's a candidate to be traded if the Padres decide they need more pitching help, and he'd also probably be the top choice to take over as a regular outfielder should any of San Diego's current starters get hurt.

A guy in my keeper league actually paid $13 at our December draft for Nady and has him penciled in as a starting OF :-o.

Nady would be a solid pickup in a keeper league. He attended high school in my area, and I got to watch him play many games. This kid is going to be good, let me tell ya ;-D

He attended high school in your area? Same here. He went to the same high school as I did, but I graduated a good 5 years or so later than he did.
