Suddenly the Tigers have a pretty solid lineup.

Their weakest position offensively just may be CF where Sanchez plays. They definitely compare well with the rest of their division. My Tiger friend says they'll shed like $12-$13 million in salary next year as well. I think they'll continue to improve.

It'd be hard to get much worse. :-D

I agree though, they are improving and they will get better. Not enough to be a playoff team anytime soon, but they are getting better.

Wow. I shouldnt tell you this, but go to the top of this page, on the left hand side, click on "sleepers". I hated reading this, cause I really wanted to keep it a secret for a while, but the truth is out there. Honestly, how much more value does Pierre bring over Sanchez - considering Pierre will likely go around the 5th in 12 team drafts, and Sanchez will be available after the 10th?

Other than that, you are right about our payroll - Damion Easley's albatross of a contract expires after this yr as well as a couple others. Not to mention the fact that Illitch is willing to spend more now that the city of Detroit is in a sort of renaisance over the last few years. The entire area around Comerica with Greektown, the casinos, is hoppin right along. Dont be suprised to see Illitch open his wallet more next season too.

I'm with you there. People here are finally getting starting to get excited about baseball again. How could you get excited entering the season with players like Ramon Santiago and Brandon Inge (although our lowly team still outdrew the eventual World Series champs)? Any positive moves you make in baseball's weakest division can go a long way. If they truly keep up the desire to improve they could have a fast rise in the coming seasons (at least within their own division).
