Ortiz - what's up with the HR drought?

This is the year I finally got one of my all-time favorite players David Ortiz, and all of a sudden he can't buy a home run. He started off with a great April, but in May he only hit 2. Are any other Ortiz owners a little bit disappointed with that? I s'pose it's not like he isn't contributing in R, RBI & BA, but still I was hoping for some more pop from Big Papi.

I can already imagine people replying and ridiculing me for not being patient but come on buddy, start hittin' 'em out again!

He is dealing with Hammy issues lately, I am sure that has a lot to do with it. Dont you fret, Ortiz will get his. ;-D

Agreed... even though he is David Ortiz, he is human and will see his share of "slumps". I'll take an Ortiz slump any day ;-D

The thing is he's not slumping, he's actually hitting better than at any time of his career but he's hitting doubles and not HR's. In fact 12 in May yet just 29 all of last year. Something is amiss and I doubt it's got anything to do with his hamstrings.

If it's true that most of your power comes from your legs, than I would assume the main part of his power drought is because of the hamstring problems.

Exactly. Like a pitcher, if a power hitter doesn't have his legs under him he loses a considerable amount of his power. His hamstrings are affecting him so he's using his upper body more than he would be if his legs were fine.

Once he gets his legs under him and doesn't have to rely on his upper body to try and force things out, he'll be fine. Which is why I'm hoping he doesn't get voted to the ASG, or if he does, he sits it out. He needs the rest.
