It looks just spiffy on Mark Loretta, but so would seaweed. The Padres' second baseman has that lean, long build that makes off-the-rack look like custom tailoring. If Loretta weren't such a decent, regular guy, you would have to hate him.
"How would that uniform look on Greg Maddux?" Loretta was asked.
"Probably better than I do," he said. "He's pretty skinny, like me."
Slugger Phil Nevin wore the home whites, which carry a cleaner, more traditional look than their cluttered Padres predecessors. The script "P," it was announced, was designed to suggest a billowing sail.
"How would that uniform look on Greg Maddux?" Nevin was asked.
"If he's wearing the same one as me, it would make this uni look a lot better," Nevin said.
Reliever Trevor Hoffman modeled the new alternate jersey. Manager Bruce Bochy appeared in the batting practice top. Both agreed that Maddux would immediately enhance the ensemble. Which, of course, is stating the obvious.
come on Doggie .... come teach us how to pitch.
Lmao. Can't say that the Padres are not trying.
i'd just be happy to see him around to help Peavy learn..
