Who do you favor? I"ll give Utley the nod as he is the best 2B by far.

Here are PECOTA's projections for these two this season.

Cabrera: .318 116 33 108 7

Utley: .288 103 31 98 11

Couple this with the fact that Cabrera is the probably the second best hitter in baseball, I think he's the better choice in this case.

I dont think position scarcity should be a factor in your draft choices until round 6-7

2B is sooooooo shallow that I'd take Utley before Cabrera.

in the 1st rd i always take the better player, not based on position, and looking at stats there is no questio: go with miguel cabrera

Sure its a shallow position but i would be very satisfied drafting a 2b with huge potential like Weeks, Kendrick, Barfield, or Kinsler in the later rounds in hope of a breakout season. I think position scarcity is overrated.

I don't believe those projections for Cabrera. Either his AVE or HR is going to be significantly higher.
