Social networking if a phoney word for "Talking to people"
I don't think it works that way. Schools are different and fraternities are generally different from house to house.
Me and my best friend lived on Busch Campus (which turned out to be exactly the opposite of the name) at our school. The ratio of male to female in the engineering school was literally 20-1 if not worse. Most students were very geeky (so am I but I view myself as somewhat cooler geek) and unfun to party with. So you have two choices to meet girls and party:
1. Transfer out of the school and move campus which was out of the question
or
2. Join a fraternity
Plus the our frat was very down to earth and I made life time friends who have similar interests and goals in life. What is so phoney about that?
