Piazza signs with the A's

Postby Havok1517 » Wed Dec 06, 2006 7:02 pm

Mike Piazza and the A's have agreed to a one-year, $8.5 million contract, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.

Piazza will probably replace Frank Thomas in the cleanup spot, and while he won't quite put up the same numbers Thomas did last year, he's the better bet of the two to stay healthy and he'll come in real handy if Jason Kendall ever gets hurt. Piazza is expected to do very little catching if Kendall is healthy.

Piazza as a full-time DH is going to be sweet. He will be the hot fantasy C sleeper. He may be old and his bat speed has slowed but he can still mash.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

you know more than anything i like this trade for Piazza. Piazza is a sure fire HOFER. we all saw it last year he can still hit the ball(petco park) and why not finish your career as a dh and pad your stats just a little more. and 1 year at that price it;s not bad for both parties involved. good luck mike!

Does this put him behind just Mauer/McCann/VMart in redraft leagues? If he can start 150+ games at DH I think he will be golden.

I've always been a fan man.....as with the Big Hurt. Is cool to see these legends DH'ing for us. It's a 1 year deal at good money so it seems like a nice move.

Now how about that Blanton/Haren/Harden for Milledge + Heilmann deal? Gonna get done?
