The mother should take the money

Absolutely Adequate wrote:A man and a woman are very much in love and decide to get married. She is very poor but he is the only son of a very rich family. The years pass by and they have a child, who is adorable and lovable and the pride of the family. Unfortunately, the rich family has never cared for the wife. They can be very kind and loving in certain situations but are very cold to the mother. After the birth of the child, the young mother and father start to grow apart gradually. There are no hard feelings between the two but when the child turns 3 years old, they decide to get a divorce.
The wealthy family, although they are hateful towards the mother, love the child very much. The mother and the father both want full custody of the child. The family, knowing that the mother is much more likely to get the child because that's just how these things generally work, make the mother an offer. They tell her that if she keeps the child and does not let the father have custody, they will withdraw all support (financial and emotional) for the child. He will grow up penniless and poor. However, if she never mentions the deal to the father or child but just lets the father have custody of the child, they will let the child grow up in their mansion and go to Harvard and he will pretty much have everything he could ever want.
In a full-length essay, please explain:
A. What should she do?
B. Is she a good mother?
