DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers are bringing back free agent Sean Casey, signing the first baseman to a one-year deal on Thursday after he hit better than .500 with two home runs in the World Series.
Casey hit .353 against the New York Yankees in the division series and after missing much of the AL championship series with a calf injury, he hit .529 with two homers and five RBIs against St. Louis.
He batted .245 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 53 games with Detroit last season after being acquired in a trade from Pittsburgh. Casey, 32, also has played for Cleveland and Cincinnati.
"Sean did a good job after joining the club, and he was tremendous during the World Series," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said in a statement. "We're happy to have Sean back and look forward to having him for an entire season. A true professional, he brings a solid left-handed bat to our lineup."
