Considering what they payed Valentin I don't think so. I think they gave him a fair amount but it doesn't make much sense to pay that amount to a bench player. I can deal with Valentin at 2B for another season, maybe with a little Hernanderson mixed in. I think a bench player who plays 2B and hits LHP well might be a possibility.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I'm cool with this news. Valentin had a decent year for the Mets, and this leaves them free to focus on the priority, namely starting pitching.
