Sheffield traded to Tigers (Merged)

The Yankees and Tigers have agreed on a Gary Sheffield trade, SI.com has learned.

In return, the Yankees will acquire highly touted right-hander Humberto Sanchez and Class A pitchers Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett, according to a Tigers source.

The Tigers will extend Sheffield's contract for two years beyond the one year and $13 million remaining.

Yankee fans seem to think this is a great deal, can anyone talk a little about the prospects? How do you think Sheff will fit in Detroit?

I like Sanchez a lot. This was a good trade for the Yanks.

I think Sheff will be completely healthy all year long next year. And I'm sure he's pleased that he didn't get sent to the Cubs. Looks like everyone will be happy.

Now we know why the Yankees turned down Linebrink.

Good deal to get those young pitchers, particularly Sanchez, but I'm very happy that Sheff is out of the AL East.

As per a post from a Yankee Fan Site: "In this years' rankings of the Tigers' system, Sanchez was #5, Whelan #6 and Clagett #13."

Good trade for the Yankees!

I'm also glad that Sheff is out of AL East. He is one scary hitter.

Believe it or not, Yankees might have one of the best farm system now :-o

Looks like Detroit is loading up to make another run next year. He can be scary in the middle of that lineup if he can stay healthy.
Kudos to GiantsFan14 for the sig.

Because the Yanks don't need Sheff that is a good deal for them. I like the deal more from Detroits side of things though!
