Maddux has become a second half pitcher. Take a look at the last two years. Don't know if he's disinterested in the first half, doesn't like the cold weather, whatever, but something kicks in that makes him a #2-3 starter after the break.
I picked him up off the trash heap two years running around the all-star break, and he's helped me both years.
Given that, my strategy would be in a deep league (12 team or more), trade for him in June, or draft him late, an be willing to sit bench him the first two months for most starts.
In a shallow league (10 teamer or less) just wait for him to appear in the waiver wire. Someone will give up on him.
