Short term memory. Arod was mvp in 05. Don't let one bad year sway you.

Arod has a mental block. I don't think he's lost actual ability.

Soriano will be the most overrated player next year. Hard to see him repeating his career year.

Superb post. Agreed completely.

You know what would really help ARod?

Afternoons spent on the beach staring at SoCal women followed by a night game against NL pitching.

Get where I'm going with this?

I didn't read this whole thread, sorry .. I just saw the top of this here page and saw somebody agruing that they would take Hafner over Kid Wonderful ..

yeah, what ever. :-b

I mean honestly guys, only one person in your league is getting Arod, and odds are, it ain't you ..

And yet we get 16 pages of research ..??

Look, if Alex Rodriguez is sitting there at your randomly decided yahoo pick number 10, ... and you clic pass ... you are the fool. ;-D

No two ways about it.

Valid point? Like you saying Arod is in his mid 30s?

I remember have a spirited debate about Arod pre-season, 2005 on a different fantasy forum. Reading a lot of the same stuff we're getting in this thread this week. He was on the decline. He'd proven conclusively that he couldn't hit in Yankee stadium. Lots of better options at 3rd, especially given the cost. Blah blah blah.

I resisted the urge all season with this guy to shove it down his throat. As Arod compiled one of his best seasons ever. Because, like him or hate him, the guy does compile great numbers. He's still relatively young. Unless you think he was a steroid user (and I haven't even seen Yanks make that suggestion -- maybe I missed it), it would be almost unprecedented for his physical decline to be under way. He's demonstrated pretty clearly before that the mental things can impact him. If he continues to struggle this season, he's going to walk into training camp next year with expectations reduced, and that should be a positive mental situation for him. It's silly to think that the guy doesn't have more great seasons in him, and that he wouldn't be a steal if he gets into the latter half of the 1rst round.

Yeah, steals may be down. But check the record. When he was the consensus number 1 pick several years in a row, he wasn't stealing many bases then, either. The SB's are nice, but they are not a key part of his value.

Consistency? Throwing this into the argument is ridiculous. Who has put up HoF numbers more consistently over the last decade than Alex Rodriquez? Even in this down year, he's given you vastly more value than Beltran gave you last year, or Soriano the year before. To get a guy with his off-the-chart upside -- and this STILL highly productive downside -- that's the definition of a 1rst rounder, baby.

I'm sorry I can't read 14 pages, but my only comments on A-Rod for next year are as follows:

He's still a 1st-rounder.

This year finally answers the question from the last two years: Albert or A-Rod?
